The Canterbury College MBA programme is delivered in two stages. The first stage of the programme is a Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership, comprising of 120 credits awarded by the Ofqual approved awarding body OTHM, towards a Masters Degree. 

Students who successfully complete the Level 7 diploma may progress onto the second stage which is the Dissertation phase, where students may achieve their final 60 credits by completing a dissertation for the MBA (Maters Stage) programme offered by the University of Gloucestershire, and delivered by our strategic partner IDM.      

 
 

 

Stage 1: 

Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership

Overview

 

The objective of the Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership qualification is to develop strategic management and leadership skills for managers who have the authority and personal attributes to translate organisational strategy into effective operational performance. This qualification reflects current practice in Strategic Management and Leadership and allows learners to develop and expand their high-level understanding of strategic management and leadership in the workplace. This qualification is suitable for mature learners with a background in academic study or industry. The qualification has a clear work-related emphasis on practical skills development alongside theoretical fundamentals.

Successful completion of the Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership qualification will equip learners with the key skills and capabilities to become an effective strategic manager. The qualification also allows learners to progress into or within employment and/or continue their study towards an MBA with advanced standing.

 

Entry requirements

For entry onto the Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership qualification, learners must possess:

• An honours degree in related subject or UK level 6 diploma or an equivalent overseas qualification

• Mature learners with management experience (learners must check with the delivery centre regarding this experience prior to registering for the programme)

• Learners must be 21 years old or older at the beginning of the course

• English requirements: If a learner is not from a majority English-speaking country they must provide evidence of English language competency. 

Equivalences

The Level 7 diplomas on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) are at the same level as master’s degrees. However, they are shorter (120 credits) and learners will have to proceed to the dissertation stage (60 credits) with a university to achieve a full masters programme.

 

Qualification structure

The Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership consists of 4 mandatory units and 2 optional units, making a combined total of 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 600 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

Assessment, Verification and Award

This qualification is awarded by OTHM, A reputed UK awarding body who’s qualifications are approved and regulated by UK Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation). All units within this qualification are internally assessed by Canterbury College and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor.

 

Progressions

Successful completion of the Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership qualification enables learners to progress on to Stage 2 of the qualification, which is the MBA (Masters stage) programme, awarded by the University of Gloucestershire. 

 

 

Stage 2: 

MBA Dissertation Stage 

Overview

 

The Master of Business Administration Dissertation phase is where students may achieve their final 60 credits by completing a dissertation for the MBA (Maters Stage) programme offered by the University of Gloucestershire, and delivered by our strategic partner IDM. This stage of qualification is for those who already hold a Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership. 

The MBA (Masters Stage) programme consists of three compulsory units; Dissertation proposal (1500 words), Dissertation (15,000 words), and a reflection paper (1500 words) worth 60 credits. This stage of the programme is designed to make a major contribution towards a students professional development, providing them the opportunity to examine an area of particular interest within an appropriate organisational context.  

Successful completion of the Dissertation for the MBA (Masters Stage) of the programme will lead to the awards of a Master in Business Administration (MBA).

 

Qualification structure

The MBA (Masters Stage) Dissertation stage comprises of three compulsory units; Dissertation proposal (1500 words), Dissertation (15,000 words), and a reflection paper (1500 words) worth 60 credits, 600 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 300 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

Duration and delivery

The full MBA qualification (Stage 1 & Stage 2 combined) is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning. The qualification is delivered face-to-face, or through live lectures via zoom interactive video conferencing, tutorials, and seminars. 

 

Progressions

Successful completion of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) qualification enables graduates to progress within employment and also join a PhD or DBA programme at many universities in the UK and overseas.
